Sally Schneider recently posted about The Furniture Doctor on her always-inspired blog, The Improvised Life; we asked her for a bit more info. Here's what she says:
"Years ago I stumbled on an old copy of George Grotz’s classic book, The Furniture Doctor, and have been consulting it ever since. I’ve used his tried-and-true techniques to refurbish down-at-heels vintage finds as well as new pieces suffering from the inevitable scratch or water mark. At once eccentric, friendly, and opinionated, Grotz will walk you through the thinking and method behind all manner of repairs. The book, which has something of a cult following, is out of print but easy to find through Amazon. There’s an early hardcover edition published in 1962 and an updated paperback version published in 1989 with chapters on more modern finishes, tools for restoring furniture, and resources."
