Remodelista New Year’s Resolutions: For the Home

Our collective New Year's resolution? Solve a few manageable interior dilemmas (painting, storage, upholstery). N.B. We'd love to hear what our readers have planned for the New Year.

Julie's resolution: "I'm slowly adding dashes of color to my otherwise neutral interior. On my wish list: rumpled velvet cushions from Kirsten Hecktermann; specifically, a couple of Persian Green hand-dyed cotton velvet cushions, £48."

Christine's resolution: "This year, I'm determined to banish gloomy London winters with the Cocoon Aeris Hanging Fireplace."

Francesca's resolution: "I'm hoping that the BassamFellows Desk Set ($615 at DWR) will help me in my resolution to clear off my desk and stop working at the dining room table."

Sarah's resolution: After four months of deliberating a myriad of paint shades, I have decided on Benjamin Moore's Smokey Taupe. No more excuses: I'm finally ready to paint the interior of my Napa cottage."

Alexa's resolution: "I'd love to upgrade to the Ikea Stockholm Sofa; a well-designed piece available for the relatively noncommittal price of $999. To make it a bit more interesting, I plan to knit a black Aran throw (inspired by Christien Meindertsma's Aran Rug)."

Izabella's resolution: "My husband is a book lover and a collector; his treasures have taken over our shared office space and library. This year we're planning to replace our current shelving with the Metal Square Stock Console Shelving Unit from Canvas."

Janet's resolution: "After 15 years, two kids, a dog, and countless guests wielding glasses of red wine, my cream linen chairs are looking tired. This is the year to reupholster: I'm leaning toward a natural, earthy linen like Flint Linen at Serena & Lily or a dark brown Knoll Velvet."
