Refined Rusticity from Pacama Handmade in Woodstock, NY

April 25, 2017

Born and raised in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, furniture maker Cedric Martin credits his Mennonite heritage for instilling in him a “reverence for tradition and subdued understated details.” After graduating from college with a sociology degree, he moved to Brooklyn and ran a cafe (he carved utensils and built the furniture). Next he studied at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, in Maine, and the North Bennett Street School, in Boston, followed by an apprenticeship with a high-end custom cabinet shop.

In 2013 Martin launched Pacama Handmade, a line of subtly detailed, handcrafted furniture, and the following year he opened a showroom and retail space in Woodstock, New York, where he sells work by “like-minded artisans and designers.” Here are some favorites from the collection.
