In the home office or by the bedside, the right table lamp or sconce can set a mood, making a drab space feel designed and an under-utilized corner look intentional. And autumn, with its shorter days and more time spent indoors, is the ideal time to consider a lighting upgrade.
This season we’re eyeing the new arrivals from contemporary lighting retailer Lightology, featuring an ever-evolving array of designs from celebrated and rising-star designers alike. Have a look at a few new, on-trend offerings, featuring rattan shades, earthy tones, and portable lights (no cords needed):
Above: From Muuto, the Set Table Lamp ($876) is made from sleek aluminum with an integrated LED bulb; the circular shade can be adjusted up and down thanks to the threads on the lamp’s body.Above: We love portable lights for cord-free use all over the house. This Bell Portable Lamp ($250), designed by Tom Dixon, takes a “reductionist approach” to the lamp form, with a dome-shaped shade and glossy finish. It’s available in four colorways and has a rechargeable battery and built-in dimmer.Above: Artist and vintage curator Carmen Nash is the designer behind Loft & Thought, a practice “influenced by her spirituality and heritage as a Black artist from the South” and taking cues from storytelling and folk art. Her ceramic Soloma Table Lamp ($440) is both sturdy and delicate, with a softly undulating edge.Above: We’ve been noticing a resurgence in moon shapes of late. The latest? The Phase Pendant (from $1,350) is designed by Estudio Persona for Resident Lighting; it’s inspired by the moon’s phases and a contrast of dark (bronze metal) and light (a curved acrylic diffuser). Above: Another Tom Dixon design: The Press Table Lamp ($625) is made from glass bands pressed together into a cylinder and comes with three metal caps—in black, gold, and silver—for changing up the look. Above: From lighting designers In Common With, the Dune Ripple Wall Sconce ($465) takes cues from “sand formations that migrate with the wind and are shaped into undulating curves.” It’s available in five colorways and can be used indoors or out.Above: And a nod to the rattan trend: The Perilla Pendant ($400) by Dabito for Mitzi mixes geometric shapes (stacked spheres and discs in aged brass) with a conical wicker rattan shade.
