While pulling all-nighters during my grad school years, I managed to melt the corner of my computer screen because of an overheated incandescent light bulb. Thanks to LED bulbs, I no longer have to worry about overheating my laptap, or anything, for that matter.
Recent innovation and technology have made LEDs bright enough to provide useful task lighting. They're energy efficient (5 times more than a standard light bulb) and don't produce infrared lighting, which is what causes traditional light bulbs to heat up. LED lights will last from between 5 to 10 years and don't contain harmful materials; making it safe for disposal.
Soon I'll invest in a LED desk lamp myself, in hopes of avoiding future computer screen damage. Here are a few of our favorite options:
