“Toronto’s accidental furniture maker”: That’s the moniker Dustin Kroft earned from us back in 2017 (see this post). And while it’s true he found his way, sideways, into woodworking—first making and refinishing furniture on his own, then enrolling in a nighttime woodworking class to hone his skills after hours before starting Kroft—every detail of his hand-crafted pieces has intention behind it.
Eight years later, we’re checking in on Dustin’s new offerings: wooden shelves and wall hooks that are as beautiful as the objects (ceramics, books, keepsakes, a favorite dress) they’re primed to hold.
(N.B.: At the moment Kroft is offering 2o percent off a purchase of $250 or more; use code SPRING at checkout.)

Many of Kroft’s offerings are available in a selection of solid woods (white ash or white oak) with low-VOC oil and wax finishes that are applied by hand. “Solid wood is harder to work with than veneer or plywood for shelving, but the end result is unmistakable,” Kroft reports. “It is also formaldehyde free, which is not the case when you opt for an engineered product.”
