Nearly two years ago, I discovered Dutch designer Jorre van Ast's Jar Tops for Royal VKB, which transform glass food jars into useful shakers, pourers, and the like. At the time, they were only available in the UK (see Kitchen: Recycled Jar Tops for the UK source). The polypropylene Jar Tops (which have been included in the permanent collection at MoMA) are now available at Unica Home in the US; $29 for the set of five.
We also like this idea (shown below) discovered on Finnish blog Varpunen; painting the tops of mismatched jars to create a suite of matching storage containers.
