We recently discovered Nodi in New Zealand—a brand of handmade, natural-fiber rugs founded by textile designer Olivia Smith.
After having studied textiles at design school in Italy, Smith began making and selling knotted cotton necklaces as a side gig—and soon graduated to designing and selling knotted cotton, jute, and wool rugs, a task she’s been at ever since. Nodi rugs are made by hand in India, in factories certified by Care & Fair (a European nonprofit working to end child labor in the textile industry). Made in a variety of woven and knotted styles, all Nodi rugs are naturally dyed, for both eco-friendliness and a perfectly imperfect character.
In Aukland, visit the Nodi store at 1 Faraday St. For more, visit Nodi.
Nodi ships to the US, Australia, and the UK, and offers free shipping within New Zealand. The word nodi means “knots” in Italian.
