On my last visit to New York, I stopped in at the Greenwich Hotel in Tribeca, a recent addition to the Robert De Niro empire. Designed by Grayling Design, the hotel features a lived-in, been-there-forever vibe not usually found in big glamour projects, starting with the midcentury paintings by Robert De Niro Sr. hanging in the hotel lobby and behind the concierge desk. Other touches: Moroccan-tiled bathrooms, a lantern-lit subterranean pool with a reconstructed Japanese farmhouse enclosure (no nails were used), and impossibly spacious suites (at a price, of course) with 30-foot skylights.
