In place of full-on dinner parties, I quite like the idea of inviting a friend over for coffee and cake—a warming way of passing the cold, dark days of winter. (A good alternative for dry January, too.)

Spotted recently, an unplugged and old-fashioned percolator, for when espresso for two is in order.
