Los Angeles–based Environment is working to bring social conciousness, environmentally friendly practices, and unconventional materials and designs to the high-end furniture market. A couple of weeks ago at Dwell on Design, we got a peek at Environment’s new Walter Chair from the ePack Collection (which debuted in Milan last spring). The ePack Collection was designed by Marc Berthier to be "light, comfortable, and compact, requiring minimal packaging, storage, and reduced energy use in transport." Consistent with Environment’s planet-friendly practices, the Walter Chair has a foldable frame of FSC-certified birch wood and is covered with neutral or charcoal recycled Army tent canvas. The chair costs $1,895 and is available in early fall 2010 at Environment.
Above: We also like the 18-inch-square Dice Stool upholstered in suprisingly soft vintage canvas from “shelter half” Army tents. Available in five colors; $295 at Environment.
