Despite our modernist inclinations, we have a weakness for British rural design, such as this curtained bedroom featuring fabric by UK designer Vanessa Arbuthnott, available through Chicago designer Lucy Rose. In her own words: “One of my favorite artists is Matisse, who toward the end of his life cut out bold, simple shapes for collages. I used this method create Swallow Dive. The organic block print is reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts Movement.” Go to vanessaarbuthnott.co.uk; in the US, her fabric is available through Lucy Rose.
