Perhaps we’re late to the game, but recently we’ve been spotting a mysterious and interesting-looking espresso maker in stylish kitchens. After a bit of digging we discovered the source: It’s called the AnZa and it’s “the lovechild of two not-so-strange bedfellows: a professional Norwegian design studio and an espresso repair shop, both sharing the same space in Berkeley, California,” according to the design team. “It’s what happens when you treat an appliance like sculpture or a piece of furniture.”
“AnZa in Concrete offers Brutalist overtures at once softened by contrasting white ceramic accents,” the designers say. “The espresso machine is clad in a hand-cast concrete shell and features porcelain touch-points, powder coated steel, and brass highlights. The AnZa in white features a crisp Corian shell with natural wood and brass components.”
