Someone clearly had an epiphany while building a metal bracket: between the top and bottom halves, there’s an opportunity for ornament.
How to fill in the blank? Over the decades, people have come up with scrolling vines, chirping birds, star patterns, and all manner of webs. You can find decorative shelf brackets at House of Antique Hardware, Van Dyke’s Restorers, Signature Hardware, Iron Accents, and Home Depot, among others.
But the majority are mass-manufactured and overwrought, especially in comparison to deVol’s Heirloom Collection brackets, which evoke sculleries of yore and offer just the right amount of flourish.
