august hotel interiors antwerp belgium vincent van duysen
Above: Planning a trip to Antwerp? We’re admiring August, a former Augustinian convent-turned-grand-hotel with interiors by Belgian architect and designer Vincent Van Duysen.
  • Sofie d’Hoore, our favorite Belgian clothing designer, has collaborated with Design Collectors on a special edition of Alvar Aalto’s iconic Stool 60; available as a set of three (with tops in Pearl Gray, Wood Nude and Ocean Green).
  • The newly opened and expanded Museum of Modern Art in NYC features a new double-height flagship MoMA Store (the gold standard for museum shops) adjacent to the lobby.
  • New on our required reading list: Ark Journal, a newish Scandinavian magazine “celebrating the soulful interplay of art, design and architecture.”
  • NY design studio Workstead has just released a new lighting collection called Archetype “inspired by Modernist forms”; stay tuned for a full post.
  • San Francisco-based A Plat, which specializes in “zero-waste designs for sharing food and wine,” is now offering sale-priced pieces made from offcut remnants and rescued fabrics, factory seconds with slight imperfections, and discontinued items. Go to Upcycled to see what’s available.
  • On our radar: Dallas-based textile company Kufri, which has a “mission to champion the craft of handloom weaving.”
  • Over on Gardenista, Kendra posts on Your Garden’s Best Friend: The Life and Times of a Ladybug.
  • You’ve still got a week to enter our sweepstakes: DIY Bathroom Makeover Giveaway from Quiet Town and Clare (entries due by Sunday, November 3). Click here to enter.
