Current Obsessions: Color Therapy

by Published: February 1, 2025

Happy weekend, one and all. In need of a bit of brightness? Us too. This week we took a detour into vibrant color (and henceforth might be painting everything a mood-boosting yellow). For game night inspiration, how to shake up a tired space with a spot of rouge, and more, read on.

  • Valentine’s Day come early, indoors and out.
  • So this is what an artist’s garden looks like.
  • Is this the year of the ceramic cup? In London, the Carrel Box exhibit at Blue Mountain school features just one work: 25 cups in a walnut display box by British potter Steve Harrison.
  • For the next three Sunday mornings, Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery will be hosting “Birding in Peace” tours, before gates open to the public. “This is one of the most peaceful places in the city,” says Marie. Ticket info here.
  • Sunday, February 2: a morning making paper Japanese Anemone flowers at The Primary Essentials. Info (and how to reserve) here.
  • At Dosa40 in LA; a celebration for Lunar New Year, plus “small things for sale,” all zero-waste, “to support Pasadena Humane Society.” (To order virtually, email sales@dosainc.com.)
  • Exciting news from Tortoise General Store: “Our new original furniture collection has arrived…all designed by TGS co-owner Takuhiro Shinomoto.”
  • Surrounded by sniffling and sneezing? Try this vintage fire cider recipe from Gardenista to ward off colds and flus.
  • And now on view at Gagosian in NYC: paintings, a sculpture, and works on paper by Cy Twombly.
  • You may already have a bird house and an insect hotel in your garden, but what about a toad house?
  • Going on today: Objects for LA, a one-day sale with proceeds to benefit communities affected by the wildfires.
  • Time for a game night?
  • And Clare writes in with this wintry candle recommendation: “I was given this Italian candle at Christmas—it’s so beautiful and has just the most delicious forest-y scent.”
