Current Obsessions: A Dose of Color

This week we’ve been taking notes on incorporating color—plus seconds sales, paper flowers, exceptional Black-owned shops, and more:

• Winter pick-me-up: Lessons in adding doses of color to our interiors, via stylist Gillian Lawlee’s anti-trendy LA cottage.
• Our favorite Boston design shop, Good—purveyor of New England-made goods, new and vintage—is closing its Charles Street shop on Feb. 26th and amping up its online emporium for browsing from anywhere. Stay tuned.
• Black-owned shops and makers to buy from this weekend (and always), via Field + Supply.
• Sunhouse Crafts—makers of the poetic brooms that are recent objects of our admiration and of wooden goods, too—are hosting their “first annual seconds sale” on Monday, February 22nd at—funnily enough—2:22 p.m. EST. Head to their shop then for half price or less on “perfectly lovely (but not evenly!) dyed dustpans, some with little scratches; brooms I accidentally dyed all brown…and one-offs from the broom and board world.”
• We’ve long loved The Lost Kitchen, the wildly beautiful (and wildly popular) restaurant in a 19th-century mill in Freedom, Maine, and everything that self-taught chef and woman of all trades Erin French does. So we’re looking forward to getting our hands on her memoir, Finding Freedom: A Cook’s Story; Remaking a Life from Scratch, out this April from Celadon Books (and available for pre-order now).
