Custom shelving made easy: that’s the mantra at Iron Abode, an Idaho-based design workshop that offers storage solutions for the whole house. The studio offers wood, glass, and metal shelving units that are customizable according to your space requirements (think: compact cocktail bar, coffee-making niche, home library). The Iron Abode website offers tools that allow you to design your ideal shelving configuration in a matter of minutes. According to owners Austin and Melanie Montierth, “All of our items are made-to-order in our workshops in Idaho. Welding, sanding, painting, and shipping—we see it through until the end producing timeless, sustainable shelving systems.”
The couple developed the template for their company after remodeling a succession of houses and realizing that it was difficult to find the custom look they were searching for—either the components were poorly made or the lead-times were too long.
On offer: five different powder-coated hardware finishes (Aged Brass, Black, Nickel, Light Brass, and Dark Bronze) several bracket styles, and a choice of glass, walnut, white oak, and metal shelving. And if you already have your shelving planks in hand, Iron Abode can supply just the brackets. Here’s a look at some favorite installations (and read to the bottom for a Remodelista reader discount):
