The Brass Tacks: Hardware from Maha Alavi in Tokyo

October 4, 2024

Noticed recently: a collection of jewelry-like hardware from Canadian industrial designer Maha Alavi whose practice is based out of Tokyo, Japan. Trained in philosophy and psychology, Alavi cites travels to Berlin, Kyoto, and Singapore as inspiration while experimenting with clay bodies before casting hardware in solid bronze. Pieces are cast out of a small, family-run foundry in Northern India working with recycled metals. Her commitment to sustainability and small batch production means that her solid hardware is made of recycled metals and are also designed to be recycled themselves. Here is a look at a few of our favorite pieces.
