Jeffrey Sherman and Perla Delson of Delson or Sherman (a Brooklyn-based firm “inspired by the belief that good architecture makes life better” and a member of the Remodelista Architect/Designer Directory) orchestrated the renovation of this appealingly modest, yet inherently elegant, brownstone in East Harlem. According to the architects, “The narrow brownstone had been divided into several shabby apartments when this family of five found it. The new modestly budgeted design turns the top floor into a sunlit play space with small sleeping rooms for each child and a segmented bathroom for multiple users. The parlor floor was opened to create one large living/dining/kitchen space. Green materials were used throughout, with dark-stained fiberboard floors at the garden level and recycled blue jeans for insulation.”
