English ceramicist Helen Beard (who apprenticed with famed studio potter Edmund de Waal) specializes in whimsical, nostalgic scenes painted on hand-thrown porcelain. "My technique for painting on clay is unique, a method I developed to fit my drawing style," she says. "Similar to that of watercolor and ink, it has a fluid quality to suit the spontaneity of the sketch."
