Gift Guide 2017: 5 Gifts for the Cat Person

December 5, 2017

We’re a bunch of animal lovers at Remodelista and Gardenista (among us, we own five cats and four dogs). Here’s our gift guide for your feline friends (a gift guide for dogs is to follow).

coiled rope whitecopy
Above: A generous gift for a friend whose cat needs to get off the human bed: a Coiled Rope Bed handmade in San Francisco by Siamese Social Club. It’s made of 100 percent cotton rope with a cotton-stuffed cushion tucked inside. Available in six colors, and shown here in sand, it’s $240 for the 19-inch bed (also available in a 21-inch size).
cats and plants book 2
Above: For your cat-obsessed friend who’s allergic, you can still encourage feline fanaticism with Cats & Plants, a full-color book of collage prints by Chicago artist Stephen Eichhorn; $45 at Mohawk General Store.
tabby james gift set
Above: From boutique catnip purveyor Tabby James: a Catnip Gift Set with certified organic regular-cut catnip, fine-cut catnip, and valerian root—meant to appeal to the 50 percent of all cats that don’t respond to catnip; $20 for a set of three.
music for cats logo
Above: Atypical, yes, but I can attest to the awesomeness of this gift: Music for Cats is a 14-track album by composer David Teie, a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC. The music is composed solely for the enjoyment of cats, but is pleasant for humans, too. I bought a copy during Teie’s wildly successful Kickstarter launch in 2015, and I turn it on whenever I need my own two cats to calm down (it works); $14 for a digital download and $20 for a CD.
cheshire mouse cat toys 1
Above: Inspired by sugar mice—a popular Christmastime candy in the UK—these Sugar Mouse Catnips Toys are hand-embroidered in England and filled with catnip. Available in pink or white; $32 for the set of two.
