Tiburon Bay View

This Tiburon project is something special, boasting sweeping vistas of the rolling hills, the Bay and the San Francisco skyline. The project was a down-to-the-studs remodel and addition. It required an overhaul of the existing entry, driveway, pool area, loggia, fire pit, edible garden and outdoor BBQ area. The intricate Connecticut Blue Stone masonry throughout (blind joint veneer and random running bond) established clean lines and framed vistas to create a calm and sleek feel. The design solution takes full advantage of this stunning hilltop site, overlooking the San Francisco Bay.

Belvedere Lagoon Refresh

This Belvedere remodel had one paramount objective; to take full advantage of Marin lagoon living. Towards that end, Pedersen Associates created a plan with two beautiful terraces that spill down to a lagoon-side dock, complete with a fire element, an outdoor kitchen and alfresco dining area. As avid sailors, the client requested a staging area for sailing and ample room for boat/gear storage, which was incorporated into the lower dock. The main courtyard garden now includes raised cor-ten steel planters with native and drought tolerant plantings in accordance with the Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance (WELO). The street entry was also redesigned for both privacy and a more contemporary feel. The resulting redesign included steel and concrete pillars and a simple, yet elegant, ipe fence.

Middle Ridge Hillside

This renovated outdoor space made use of a neglected hillside in Mill Valley. Pedersen Associates was able to carve out a large living area by reorienting stairs and setting new built in seating around the perimeter. The owners were looking for a space that would be appealing to the entire family, including their 3 very active boys. The final design incorporated a firepit, outdoor kitchen, lounge area, kids ping pong space, an outdoor shower and a hottub. The new living area flows direcly off of the family’s kitchen and has doubled the entertaining and relaxing space.

Hill Road Revival

This traditional garden is an extension of the architecture: simple, classic lines and materials reference the building and extend the spaces to the garden. Generous trellises provide softening and sun relief for the dining and family rooms where French doors open out to the main terrace. The fireplace, framed by a “throw rug” of patterned Connecticut blue stone, bordered by a running band of a select blue color creates an outdoor living area with views to the pool, great lawn and Mt. Tamalpais in the distance. Garden backdrops in natural and painted Cedar provide reference and ornamentation at the pool and rose garden.

Intimate Contemporary Garden

The objective of this project was to create an elegant, simple space that was set up for casual entertaining. The client leans towards a more modern aesthetic which is reflected in the custom-designed steel trellis, the horizontally-coursed veneer wall and the cor-ten steel planters. The outdoor grilling/kitchen area is housed under a separate trellis to help create different outdoor “rooms”, per the client’s request. Also enhancing the modern tone is the client’s sculpture collection which is incorporated to add punctuation and interest to the space. The planting plan was also kept simple, using a mature olive tree and Japanese maple as focal points and some heavily repeated perennials and grasses to both define and soften the space.

Hillside Retreat

Set on a gorgeous piece of property, the primary objectives of this project were to increase outdoor entertaining space and to augment poolside amenities. The client wanted a garden that drew people in and encouraged interaction. Pedersen Associates revamped the entry and created better access from event parking to the pool. The new olive allee gracefully leads pedestrians from the parking area to the pool terrace, complete with a custom slab-stone fire element nestled under a canopy of oak trees. The winding paths meander through the olives and are dotted with seating, vistas and sculpture. The site is planted with drought tolerant varieties such as yarrow, sage, grasses and lavender – the result is both serene and magical.

Sorich Park Farmhouse

Pedersen Associates designed this lush property to take advantage of the open space and stunning Mt. Tamalpais views. The project developed multiple “rooms” for various activities – sitting by the fire, swimming and even bocce. The areas are connected by stone pathways and steps to make for graceful transitions. The planting plan is a verdant mix of evergreen foundation plants and blooming perennials.

Gilmartin Estate

With expansive vistas to the bay and San Francisco, and a framed vista of the Golden Gate Bridge, this hilltop landscape is designed for full enjoyment of its surrounding setting. The property includes a curving swimming pool, fountains, entry courtyard, stairs, walls and trellises. The garden uses drifts of roses and perennials. Over seven hundred rose plants in the garden make a spectacular spring display.

Classic Belvedere Estate

This site has some of the most spectacular Marin views we have ever seen. The sweeping panoramic view takes in the San Francisco skyline, the Golden Gate Bridge and the foothills of Marin to the North. To take advantage of the location Pedersen Associates created a multi level terrace with pool, elevated spa, outdoor dining area, fire element and lounge space. The terraces are separated by lush planting beds to soften the hardscape. Pedersen Associates also redesigned the front approach to the house, creating a circular auto court and a formal entry with water feature. The result feels both timeless and stately.
