Most importantly, we recognize that our projects are not simply a built output that is designed, constructed, and then turned over to a client. We see our projects as ecosystems that must serve (and bring joy to!) owners and occupants for their entire life-cycle, and embrace the responsibility to deliver the best possible solutions accordingly.
This project was the complete renovation of a historic rowhome in the Logan Square neighborhood of Philadelphia. In the rear, a light-filled contemporary addition and kitchen renovation opens to a redesigned garden with living and dining spaces. The design completely transforms the home while still celebrating historic details.
Our client, an interior designer and an old friend, sought to create a loft-style primary suite from an existing family room located on the top level of her rowhome. A bank of operable skylights keeps the space feeling open and bright while a glazed partition provides a layer of privacy.
The addition of this sunlit room, though small in footprint, transformed the circulation and flow of a suburban home. Windows and skylights provide daylight deep into the building footprint, and opens to a new adjacent exterior patio and pergola space on either side.
