Services Offered

There’’s nothing shy about Ellen Hamilton’’s warm, welcoming and vivid spaces, where her distinctive, painterly use of color defines modern family living spaces. The color washes over rooms grounded by French or English antiques, but in which Hamilton’’s clear-eyed modern sensibilities are never hidden.

Greens and reds, stripes and florals companion freshly together in fabrics and finishes, providing a perfect environment for family heirlooms, custom pieces, and antiques. Ellen’s high level of personal service and attention to detail is reflected in her work for clients both in and out of the public eye. Belle, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Home Observer, New York Spaces, Traditional Home, House & Garden and Robb Report have all featured Ellen’s work, and she has been consistently among New York Spaces Top 50 Names You Need to Know in Metro New York Design. Ellen has also been featured in Restoring a House in the City by Ingrid Abramovitch (Abrams, 2009).

She founded Hamilton Design Associates in 1986 after working for leading New York architecture and residential interior design firms Peter Marino Architects and FXFowle Architects.

Hill Farm

Hill Farm is located in New Preston, Connecticut. A former dairy farm purchased by the owners, over time has finally been realized as their escape from city life. The owners imagined a place where it would feel like escaping to Italy or France yet only travel two hours from New York City. Dream realized, the farm hosts a working vineyard, stables, ice hockey for the winter, tennis court in the summer, squash courts and racquetball.

Art-Filled Townhouse

“I Want A House That Feels Young And Happy For My Family, Filled With Color And Art.”
Asked a young Brooklyn family having purchased a Greek Revival townhouse in Brooklyn Heights. They asked us to transform the period interior into a worldly and colorful setting for their children, life and their art collection.

Romance Language

This magnificent double-height Manhattan apartment was designed in 1904 as an artist’s studio in a Renaissance-style building by the architect Charles Platt. My clients, a husband and wife couple, were passionate about Italy and wanted a home with the ambiance of a Florentine palazzo. The color scheme was inspired by frescoes by the early Renaissance painter Fra Angelico at the Convent of San Marco in Florence.

Hamptons Watercolor

This weekend home in Quogue, Long Island, is highly personal and was designed around a collection of art and objects, many of which were collected by the client’s father. The color scheme was influenced by the landscape paintings of the English romanticist J. M. W. Turner.
