For thousands of years, Mayan villagers living near Guatemala's Lake Atitlan have been weaving thick reed sleeping mats from dense shoreline rushes. Twenty years ago, artisan Gregorio Perez began creating three-dimensional objects from these chunky reeds - beginning with this versatile outdoor furnishing that converts from sturdy stool to roomy side table. It easily withstands rain but should be air-dried when not in use.
