Urushi Boxes with Wood Lid

Husband and wife team Kenichi and Minako Fujii.work together to produce Urushi ( Japanese Lacquer) tableware at their studio in Hyogo Ken. Having trained at the same school and later garnering experience while both working at the the same wood workshop in Takayama the duo have a special collaboration that is ideal for Urushi that requires the skills of more than one artisan to complete each piece. Each has their specialty, with Kenichi handling the woodwork and shaping each base in preparation for Minako whose expertise lies in the application of the lacquer.

These containers feature a textured laquer base with a thick lid made from Horse Chestnut wood finished with a beeswax coating.
