Tractor Barstool
Referred to as “the design world’s A-team” by The Times of London: Scott Fellows, a Harvard MBA, is the fashion creative director who transformed the Swiss firm Bally. Craig Bassam is an architect whose career started with Bruce Eeles, a disciple of Marcel Breuer, before heading to Greece to study the classics. Together they are BassamFellows. The inspiration for their Tractor Stool (2000/2001) was a tractor seat found on the side of the road in Switzerland. Bassam was impressed by how the seat allowed him to sit in an upright, ergonomic position without the aid of a chair back, but unlike the metal seat that he found, Bassam prefers to work in wood. These stools will age beautifully, as the scratches that come with normal use will create a warm, inviting patina over time. Contract quality, Tractor stools are used in diverse settings worldwide, from the W Hotel in South Beach to the Herman Miller® showroom in New York to Le Royal Monceau hotel in Paris. Made in U.S.A.
- Carved out of a massive block of FSC- and SFI-certified American walnut; the scraps are recycled or reused to make accessories.
- The quality of the wood used is in the top 10% of top-grade walnut.
- No stains are ever used and because of the natural variations of walnut, every Tractor Stool is unique.
- The stools are hand finished with a wipe-on oil and sealer product. By not using spray booths, BassamFellows maintains a healthy work environment for their artisans.
