Massaud w083t LED Lamp
“It’s about gravity and non-gravity,” writes designer Jean-Marie Massaud about his w083t LED Lamp (2008), which balances on a bowl-shaped base that rests on a magnetic platform. While this base stays securely in place, the arm of the lamp spins 360 degrees to cast warm white light where its needed on the table or desk. To turn the Massaud Lamp on or off, simply wave your hand over the infrared switch on the base. While LED lamps are energy efficient (this lamp consumes only three watts of energy) they do produce a fair amount of heat. To solve this problem, Massaud made the stem without any joints, so the heat naturally dissipates down the lamp, away from the bulbs, and the lamp stays cool to the touch.
