This chair was initially commissioned by the newly renovated de la warr pavilion as a piece of furniture that would represent the best of contemporary design while remaining sympathetic to the aesthetic of the iconic 1930s building. The distinctive skid leg of the chair was created in response to the observation that many chairs, especially dining chairs, are first viewed from the rear. The designers chose to use an enclosed volume, a fluid form rather than a more traditional leg form. This element became the most engaging feature of the much revered de la warr pavilion chair, which is constructed from pressure die cast aluminum.
