Traditionally common in Maine and the Adirondacks, pack baskets are the size of canoe packs and fit upright in the canoe. Woven with natural materials like ash or reeds, these open baskets are outfitted with handles and pack straps. Wood or other solid materials provide a sturdy interior base and runners along the bottom exterior to protect pack from water in the bottom of the canoe. Good for carrying bulky gear and food. Not watertight.
