Bath: Japanese Hinoki Tubs
Issue 26 · Summer Essentials · July 2, 2009
The Galerie Sofie Lachaert bed and breakfast in Tielrode, 20 minutes from Antwerp and a half-hour from Brussels and Ghent, is located in a 19th-century brick shipyard office. Owner Sofie Lachaert (a jewelry and product designer who has created pieces for Droog) has created a minimalist oasis; we especially like her serene bathrooms, which feature elliptical Japanese furos.

Recreate the look with a Japanese tub made from hinoki wood.

Above: Based in Japan and founded by Italian architect Iacopo Torrini, Bartok Designs ships hinoki tubs all over the world. "Our tubs are produced with hinoki wood from the Kiso Valley and manufactured by craftsmen I have known for years," Torrini says.
