Hotels, Lodging & Restaurants: Blue Hill at Stone Barns

From Janet

High on my list of restaurants to visit: Dan Barber's Blue Hill at Stone Barns, located in the pastoral Hudson River Valley, with interiors conceptualized by Laureen Barber. According to the architects on the project, Asfour Guzy, "The main dining room occupies a former dairy barn on the Rockefeller estate, part of a complex of Norman-style farm buildings built in the 1920s. The original barn structures coexist with new architectural elements, framing views of the 80-acre working farm and creating a backdrop to the restaurant’s idyllic Hudson Valley setting." Go to Blue Hill at Stone Barns for reservations and information.

Above: The black leather Easy Chairs in the bar were designed in 1964 by Danish furniture designer Børge Mogensen; the cherry veneer floor lamps are by Hudson Valley artisan Chris Lehrecke.

Above: The walnut pedestals and walnut mantel in the bar are by Hudson Valley artisan Chris Lehrecke. The bar stools are American walnut from De La Espada.

Above: Laureen Barber, one of the owners, conceptualized and executed the original interior design for the restaurant and has continued to tweak its interior throughout the years. The De La Espada dining room chairs are American walnut with wool flannel upholstery.

Above: Asfour Guzy designed the Cast Bronze Dining Room Sconces, which were produced by Corbin Bronze in St. Louis, Missouri.

Above: Chris Lehrecke used old milk bottles collected in Westchester County in his chandelier design for the Stone Barns event spaces.

Looks warm and inviting. Love the dinning room chairs. How's the food?

Beautiful photos. I love Blue Hill restaurant in NYC and have been trying to get to Stone Barns forever. I truly admire and appreciate Dan Barber's philosophy on food and cooking.

Is that dragonfly plate by Laura Zindel? I love it. I'm wondering why it isn't mentioned although it's featured.

We ate here for a anniversary and it was one of the best meals we have ever had! We spent a couple hours walking around the farm before sitting down to dinner. It was so fun to eat food that we had seen growing!

I have been, and the food is as great as the place is beautiful! (Still trying to make it to the city to try the one there.)

Just enjoyed a holiday meal at Stone Hill in December. Decided to go for Sunday brunch so we could see the farm. Spectacular. It had snowed laste Saturday evening. You can imagine the view. Food was equally delightful (and super fresh). A big splurge by most people's standards ($125+ per person) but it's an experience. Similar to theater. Very special.

Enjoy!
