Out of her Santa Fe studio, Sherry Stein, a former design director for the Gap, produces women’s tool belts and multi-pocketed wrap skirts that can take the place of handbags–or, at least, enable the wearer to be, as Stein puts it, “ready for any emergency, hands-free.”
Above: The Marfa Skirt, $225, has a zippered cargo pocket large enough for a wallet and a cell phone as well as smaller pouches for pens, pencils, and flash drives. It’s made of water-repellent black waxed canvas and top-grain leather. Stein also makes made-to-order totes inspired by antique carpenter’s and bricklayer’s bags; see her complete line at Sherry Stein.
