Founded by Fiona McLean, McLean Quinlan has built a reputation for the design of exquisite bespoke buildings, both in the UK and abroad.
We remain intentionally small so we concentrate on what we do best: transforming a carefully constructed brief into a beautiful building. We take a holistic approach to each project and, with sustainability always in mind, we consider the building, landscape, function and interior design and employ careful use of scale, proportion and detail to create houses that delight.
We love what we do and particularly projects that offer opportunities for designing finely crafted modern buildings in stunning surroundings, whether new build, radical remodelling, or reworking existing buildings.
Selected Projects
A radical approach was required for this converted barn sited in open countryside. As the previous conversion had been so poor, we decided to demolish the building and using the salvaged stonework, start again with the addition of two new wings and a swimming pool.
Our brief for this project was to build the house our client had always wanted to build – a light, modern home, using natural, timeless materials that seamlessly link indoor and outdoor spaces.
Tucked beneath a hill and hidden from view, this new build home sits in a beautiful Devon valley. The brief for this project was to create a contemporary family home that would sit quietly among its surroundings, replacing the dilapidated farmhouse which once sat on the site.
This grade II listed building, situated on a south facing slope with views to the River Dart, was designed in 1805, by Sir John Nash, as the Coach House to Sandridge Park.
Situated in the wonderfully desolate, old industrial landscape of Camel Quarry on the shores of the Camel Estuary in Cornwall, this new build house, sited over the footprint of the original building, is a unique and distinct response to the site.
The design strategy for this new build villa was to create a building that would exploit the spectacular landscape. The site occupies a panoramic south west facing sweep of embankment, with impressive views to the Mediterranean, Rock of Gibraltar and Serranía de Ronda.
