States Street Tandem: States Street, in San Francisco, sits on an unusual 50’ x 50’, severe, down-sloping lot. The two units, ‘x’ and ‘y’ relate, yet differ. Each unit has closed, perforated spaces containing cooking, bathing, opening into a wider space for living, dining, bedrooms and stair core. Finishes of cold rolled steel, oxidized steel, concrete, translucent glass and stucco define this modern dwelling. Barrel roofs and open trussed ceilings bring maximum Northern light while shading the South terraces. Photo: Massamilliano Bolzonella, Marc Heldens
